Watamu and Malindi

Gedi ruins

Day 1: You will head for Malindi on the northern outskirts of Mombasa via the Nyali bridge.
First stop at Vipingo, to photograph the sisal plantations. Then walk through the Arabuko Sokoke forest in search of butterflies. Accommodation is in a lodge where you can take a refreshing dip in the pool. Next to the lodge, small restaurants will be there for you to have lunch before resting. Visit the bird park just behind the lodge.
Day 2: Visit Malindi, the white pillar erected by Vasco de Gama in the 15th century. You will then descend to the small town of Watamu, home to the ruins of Gedi.

Gedi is a village built by Arab traders around the 11th century to hold slaves before they were sent to Zanzibar.
